Wedding Day Prep
November 6, 2024Your Wedding Day Beauty Guide: Tips for a Smooth Morning
The big day is almost here, and we want everything to go perfectly, starting with hair and makeup. If this part runs late, it can throw off the entire schedule. Here’s a simple guide to help us stay on time and keep everything running smoothly:
1. Know Your Service Timeline
- Make sure everyone knows their exact appointment time and arrives 10 minutes early. This will ensure everyone is ready to go (photos taken, robe on, dry hair, no makeup) when it’s time for their appointment.
- If someone has a tendency to run late (like your sister-in-law), let them know their appointment is 20 minutes earlier than scheduled.
2. Have Inspiration Photos Ready
- Everyone should bring photos of the look and style they want for hair and makeup. This helps us understand your vision better. Try to choose photos of people with similar features (hair color, skin tone, hair thickness, etc.).
3. Skin Prep
- If you’ve just showered and your skin feels dry, do your usual skin routine and exfoliate. We’ll handle the rest when it’s time for hair and makeup, but we want to avoid any dehydration.
- Prepping with a mask or eye patches before the session is even better! I provide eye patches for brides, but bridesmaids can also use them for $6 per person if desired.
4. Set Up the Hair and Makeup Area
- Make sure there’s enough space for the team to work. We’ll need a 3x3 foot table per artist, an electric outlet, and a low chair for hair styling (a dining chair with a back that doesn’t go above the neckline works best).
- I’ll bring my makeup chair, so you don’t need to worry about that.
- Ideally, have the area near a window for natural light, but if that’s not possible, we’ll bring our own lights.
5. Wash + Dry Your Hair
- Please wash and fully dry your hair the night before or the morning of your appointment. Wet hair adds 15-20 minutes to the service, which can delay the schedule.
- If you’re worried your hair won’t hold because it’s too fresh, don’t stress! We have all the products to make it feel like second-day hair. Clean hair is the best to work with.
6. Need More Hair?
- If you or your bridesmaids want to use hair extensions, let us know ahead of time. It’ll add 15-20 minutes to the style and cost an additional $25.
7. Choose Easy-to-Remove Wardrobe
- Wear something easy to slip on and off so you don’t mess up your hair and makeup when getting dressed. If your dress goes on from the bottom up (head first), consider wearing it under a robe to protect it.
8. Be Ready for Your Photographer
- Before your hair and makeup starts, lay out your details for the photographer (jewelry, shoes, invitations, perfume, etc.). This will help avoid delays when they arrive and keep the day on track.
9. Emergency Kit for Bridesmaids
- While the bride gets a touch-up kit with the essentials, I recommend bridesmaids bring these items:
- Powder if you get oily
- Eyelash glue (I recommend DUO green glue)
- Eyeliner in case you need to remove your lashes and reapply eyeliner later.
- Powder if you get oily
10. Makeup Removal
- For the end of the night, make sure to bring oil-based makeup remover. The makeup we use is very waterproof, and oil is the best way to remove it without irritating your skin.
By following these tips, we can keep everything on time and help make your day as smooth and stress-free as possible!
